This is the 1910 Michigan census.

This is kinda hard to read, but Dan & Mary A are listed, they are now listed in the 60's, and Mildred M (their granddaughter) is now living with them. She is 8 years old.

Mildred's mom, Helen, wanted to go to nurses school. Back then, they paid you to attend school. Helen had made arrangements with Dan and Mary Ann for Mildred to live with them until she finished school. When she came back to reclaim little Mildred, the Ryans refused to let her go. There was a very heated court custody trial, and the Ryans were awarded custody of Mildred.
